Young Gunners 1 PDF Print E-mail

adebayor2.jpgYoung Gunners is my EPL fantasy log. Each week it will contain and interview with Stuart Herron, the longtime Leeds United defender who's just taken his Islington side into the Premiership with solid backing from his front office team, Nazir Hamed and American billionaire Tex Huffington.

After the interview I'll include my pundit predictions for the upcoming game week.

Sir Stanton Hobbes-Miller: Well Stuart, congratulations on a fine beginning to your first season in the Premiership. You've had a few days now to consider your first two fixtures. What are you thinking going into Round 3?

Stewart Herron: I preciate that Mr. Hobbes. Yeah I'm quite pleased with the lads' performance on Wednesday. It was a hard fought game and I thought they did well to get their wits about em after the first one and fight to win the game. The first goal was a long time comin but I thought we'd been a bit unlucky before that and the goal was well-deserved. I thought once Didier Drogba got involved, he took over. That's what Naz (Nazir Hamed) brought him into do and he was up to it. Great strike the second one. Nothing the keeper could do with at.

SHM: Have you watched Sunday's game over?

SH: Yeah you bet I have. You bet I have, Mr. Hobbes. I don't think it's a secret what happened. We played well in the build up. The midfielders took care of their part. I thought Fabregas and Hleb were fantastic in combination and I thought Arteta and Essien were real pros the way they controlled tempo. For whatever reason the boys up top had a bit of trouble getting involved but they worked hard and it always looked like goals. Just not there in the last third but it was the first match of the season.

We let ourselves down a bit in the back. The lads know what happened. They weren't happy about it neither. We made some changes as a result and you know I thought they did their part yesterday. Nothing spectacular. Lost track of some people maybe, but Melchiot held the thing together and we've done enough. Got to get better for sure.

SHM: What do you make of the weekend?

SH: We don't travel. Essien's bothered by the ankle so he's unlikely. The rest of the boys are ready to go. We've got nothing but high expectation. Mr. Huffington and Naz did what they had to do to get some players in and now we've got to be men and take it on. I still think V. Persie's got some goals in em. The end of the day we've got four points from two fixtures and we need three more on Saturday.

Gameweek 3 Fantasy Predictions:

The EPL pundit is jabbering away about wholesaling your Man U boys Rooney and Ronaldo. I won't have Man U guys on my team though, at least not yet, so it's no worries.

If you're looking for attacking players to replace em, the obvious choices have to be Drogba (no bargain but you won't lose ground on everyone else who's got Drogba), Andy Johnson (because Everton will keep scoring), and Tevez (cause he's got a lot of minutes to play now). Martins is popular because of his goals but who knows how long that lasts. My longshot pick says take on of the Boro guys: Aliadiere, Mido, or Tuncay. They're all good players and Boro has to start scoring. Anelka is a good bet to start scoring at some point, but Bolton looks awful right now so I wouldn't jump in. Also, keep your eye out for the Vagner Love signing at Villa.

In defense, it's all about picking the stingy teams and hoping they have good matchups. The sure thing so far is Man City, though, and Dunne and his mates are not that pricey. Sunderland, Reading, Wigan, and Everton have also been stingy. I'd take a risk on one of the cheaper guys who's sure to start.

In the midfield Petrov and Elano at Man City will score points and aren't horribly pricey. Hleb and Bentley are also good picks.

It was all about the Sky Blues this week, huh, and their crosstown rivals had a big old headache getting ready for their derby. Three great games this weekend with the Manchester derby, Liverpool v. Chelsea, and Arsenal v. Blackburn.
